DSPS-Reviewed Heater Bypass Correction

Phase-One system improvement completed under DSPS plan review to stabilize flow, reduce system pressure,
and prepare the equipment room for a future filter replacement. Proudly performed in partnership with the
facility to minimize downtime and maintain positive communication throughout the project.

This heater bypass correction was completed in accordance with engineered plans prepared and sealed by a Wisconsin Licensed Professional Engineer and reviewed and approved by the Wisconsin Department of Safety and Professional Services (DSPS). Under Chapter SPS 390, modifications and alterations to Wisconsin public swimming pools require DSPS plan review and approval. Pool Envy® performed the installation in accordance with the approved plans. Upon completion, the installation was inspected and subsequently approved by the Wisconsin Department of Safety and Professional Services (DSPS).

The heater bypass correction was completed in accordance with a DSPS-approved plan set. The installation followed the approved plans and applicable requirements of Wisconsin Administrative Code Chapter SPS 390. The approved design allowed the bypass system to be installed before a future filter replacement while maintaining compliance with the approved construction documents.

Existing Conditions

Prior to the bypass improvement, the system presented several existing conditions that influenced pressure,
flow balance, and sampling behavior. Pool Envy®’s role was not to critique prior work, but to process
through the existing plumbing layout and apply recognized industry standards to achieve a stable
configuration that met DSPS-reviewed expectations and the facility’s operational goals.

  • Higher-than-ideal pressure and velocity across the heater run
  • An existing chemical feeder upstream of the heater segment
  • 1-inch sampling lines positioned at the end of the heater path
  • Limited ability to independently adjust the heater flow

To complete the bypass correction with minimal disruption, Pool Envy® followed a phased method that allowed
the system to remain operational while preparing for the upcoming filter replacement. We processed through
a series of existing situations and applied recognized industry standards to reach successful outcomes and

Final Configuration (After)

The completed bypass now includes independent flow control, DSPS-aligned labeling, a check valve for heater
protection, and a stable arrangement supporting both heater performance and the planned filter replacement
scheduled under a separate permit.

Outcome
